“I dare you”, those were to words spoken by a co-worker one day that finally launched Christy into action. After nearly 17 years as a Labor and Delivery nurse, Christy felt she was at a crossroads in her career. She knew it was time for a different career path, but did not want to give up the fulfillment she felt as a nursing. Becoming a Midwife seemed the logical step, but it took the challenge of her co-workers to make the move.
Christy graduated from nursing school, with honors, from Palm Beach State College in Lake Worth, FL. During her nursing career, she has worked in many areas of Florida, each bring a learning environment. One person in particular was a midwife from Scotland. As Christy worked alongside her, the role of a midwife became etched in Christy’s mind. Over the years, she paid particular attention to midwives and the care given to their patients. Christy worked with a team to integrate new computerized charting systems in her local hospital. She has served on many committees to improve patient satisfaction and cost effectiveness during hospital stays, as well as acting as a mentor, orientating new graduates into the labor and delivery setting.
She received her Masters Degree in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University. Now, as a midwife, Christy states “the look on a mother’s face when she first hears a heartbeat or holds her child- that is the joy of this career.” She feels strongly about empowering women through education, guiding in healthcare decisions, and celebrating the joys of pregnancy. She looks forward to becoming a part of the Centering Pregnancy program team. “I am excited to join this incredible, diverse, compassionate midwifery team at Southern Crescent.”
