Every month, Southern Crescent Women’s Healthcare features some of our wonderful team members on our blog. Meet SCWH Midwife Christy Standridge, MSN, CNM!

Christy Standridge attended Palm Beach State College in Lake Worth, FL, where she graduated from nursing school with honors. She spent almost 17 years as a Labor and Delivery nurse and worked alongside many inspiring people but it was one person in particular – a midwife from Scotland – that made a big impression. Since Christy always loves to learn new things, she paid close attention to midwives and their role they played in a patient’s care. When she began to think about advancing her own career, becoming a midwife was the next logical step because she did not want to give up the fulfillment she felt in nursing.

It was the nudge of a co-worker – who said, “I dare you” – that made her take the leap. Christy received her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University. As a midwife, she feels strongly about empowering women through education, guiding them in healthcare decisions, and celebrating the joys of pregnancy.

Christy never tires of watching a mom cry tears of joy when she hears the baby’s heartbeat for the first time or at the moment of when she places the baby on their chest right after delivery. In fact, she says that is the best part of her job.

Christy is a self-described “sports” mom who very much loves her family. You may be surprised to find out that Christy drove a school bus to help pay for her older boys tuition when they were in elementary school! When she is not working, she enjoys traveling and holidays. Her hobbies include cooking, quilting and reading.

Her favorite quote is something that we should all live by: “The gift of kindness, no matter how small, can make all the difference.”
