Every month, Southern Crescent Women’s Healthcare features some of our our team members here on our blog. Meet SCWH Midwife Kira Pulliam, MSN, CNM!
At the young age of five, Kira new that she wanted to be a “baby nurse”, inspired by her aunt who was a labor and delivery nurse.
She spent her childhood years in southeast Virginia, and southeast Alabama.
Kira attended the University of South Alabama and did her clinical rotations at Troy University, graduating with a BSN in 2000.
From the beginning of her career as a labor and delivery nurse, she felt passionate about helping women become mothers and providing settings for safe delivery for every women. She worked at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama, and several years later she relocated to Newnan, Georgia. She also spent 1 year as a traveling nurse in California.
As Kira’s work experience grew, so did her passion to help women have more childbirth options. Kira enrolled in the midwifery program at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, to fulfill her desire to help women make informed healthcare decisions, especially in the area of pregnancy. She completed her MSN degree while also working labor and delivery in a local hospital.
In 2008, she relocated to Virginia, married her husband Greg, and began her midwifery career in a Suffolk, VA private practice. In 2009, she welcomed the delivery of her own son through midwifery care and in 2010, had the privilege of delivering her sister’s baby, one of her most memorable experiences as a midwife!
Eventually Kira’s family made the decision to move further south because of job opportunities and proximity to family. Kira and family settled in LaGrange where her son attends the local elementary school and her husband is employed at Fort Benning.
Kira and her family value their active roles in their church, community, and school. You may be surprised to discover that Kira considers herself an introvert. When she is not working, she enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her family (which also includes two dogs, one cool cat and one SWEET kitten!). Kira strongly loves Jesus, her family, chocolate, and thin crust pepperoni pizza too!
Kira’s favorite Bible quote is:
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 New International Version (NIV)
