Every month, Southern Crescent Women’s Healthcare features some of our fantastic team members on our blog. Meet SCWH Certified Nurse Midwife Marjani Jean-Philippe, MSN, CNM!
Marjani was born and raised in New York but enjoys the warmth and hospitality of the South. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse for several years and had the pleasure of attending births at the Brooklyn Birthing Center, the only freestanding birth center in New York. Marjani’s own birthing experience empowered her to pursue her dream of becoming a midwife. She wanted to make a difference for other women and support them during one of their most transformative times of their lives.
Marjani received her masters of science in Nurse-Midwifery from Frontier Nursing University. She is a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives Georgia affiliate and was also inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
Marjani’s most memorable experience as a nurse midwife is powerful and deserves to be shared in her own words:
“I took care of a young mom who was a victim of sexual assault years earlier. She struggled emotionally through her pregnancy, never feeling loved, worthy or capable. She delivered a beautiful baby girl and to see her feeling so empowered by her birth was special for me. The birth of her little girl transformed her and helped her reclaim her power. She shared with me that she felt that whole and worthy after years of never feeling like she was enough. I felt very honored that I got to be present to witness her growth. This is one of the many reasons I am a midwife.”
Marjani loves God, her family, and spending time in nature. She also enjoys reading, cooking, and crocheting.
As the daughter of first generation Haitian immigrants, she is passionate about providing care to underserved populations. She has plans to go to Haiti in the near future to help in the training of traditional midwives.
Marjani also loves to sing and dance, usually when nobody is watching!
