Dr. Edwin Bello received his undergraduate degree from the University of Puerto Rico and completed medical school at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine where he also completed his internship/residency at University Hospital. He is an active member of professional societies including the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine and the American Association of Gyn Laparoscopists.
Dr. Bello started practicing medicine in Alabama and has been in Georgia since 1993. One of his most memorable experiences as a physician was when he was a resident. A woman who was 21 came in with heavy labor to deliver. When he looked at her afterward, he realized that she was someone he knew and used to hang out with when she was 13 or 14 (he was a few years older than her). He felt that it was wonderful to be part of a new phase of her life. Dr. Bello also is in awe at the circle of life. He is currently delivering babies of people that he had delivered! These moments are always very precious to him.
When Dr. Bello is not working, he loves to play golf! He also treasures time with his son and fiancé, which often includes watching a movie and dinner at a restaurant. He enjoys the Star Trek movies and action movies. Dr. Bello considers himself a bit of a “foodie”. French restaurants are his favorite but Italian cuisine comes in a close second. Going out with friends to concerts or restaurants is also a big part of his spare time.
Something that you may find surprising about Dr. Bello is that he used to play basketball (even though he is on the short side!). He loved playing in the open leagues.
Dr. Bello speaks English and Spanish and enjoys working at SCWH because it is a warm, caring, and modern facility that is up-to-date with the latest technology to bring women the best medical care.
He volunteered this year as part of a surgical mission with Georgia Surgical Expeditions Inc., from February 5th-9th, 2018 in Bohol, Philippines to provide free surgical care to those in need.
