Every month, Southern Crescent Women’s HealthCare interviews one of our team members – meet Dr. Darrell Martin!

Dr. Martin has been practicing medicine for over 40 years. He, alongside Raul Takagi founded Southern Crescent Women’s HealthCare in 1984. He views his work as an obstetrician, gynecologist and gynecological surgeon as more than medicine, but a ministry. “I have such a passion for women’s health. We aren’t just taking care of the body, but also of the mind and spirit. I plan on continuing to practice as long as I maintain the passion for it, and that certainly hasn’t gone, if anything, it’s stronger,” says Dr. Martin.

When Dr. Martin isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his family and playing and watching sports. His favorite team is the Atlanta Braves. He also enjoys hiking. He has five wonderful grandchildren, ages 6 to 13.

Dr. Martin is dedicated to his family, his work and the Lord. He is active in ISSA International Ministries and regularly goes to the mission field in Cuba. He works with his wife Sandy in the ministry of Southwest Christian Hospice. He is a member of Mt. Paran Church in Atlanta.

One thing people might not know about Dr. Martin is that he testified before Congress, advocating for Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM)s and a patient’s right to choose their providers.

One of his most memorable experiences as a physician is standing up for nurse midwifery in Nashville, Tennessee. He also feels privileged to have helped deliver over 5,000 deliveries.

His favorite quote is The Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you! Always do the right thing!
