Pregnancy Q & A

I think I’m pregnant, what should I do?

If you suspect you might be pregnant, make an appointment to see one of the expert providers at Southern Crescent Women’s HealthCare. The clinic has a team consisting of obstetricians, certified nurse-midwives, nurse practitioners, and physician’s assistants who are all exceptionally well-qualified, with considerable expertise in helping women have successful pregnancies and healthy babies.

Beginning with your initial appointment to confirm your pregnancy, through the prenatal care visits, ultrasounds, labor & delivery, and post-partum follow-up, you will be comforted in knowing that you and your baby received the best possible care at each step of the way.

How often do I need to attend checkups during my pregnancy?

Healthy, uncomplicated pregnancies usually follow a schedule of a checkup every four weeks for the first six months, increasing to every two weeks for the seventh and eighth months, and weekly in the ninth month.

If you have any complications, or your pregnancy is considered to be high risk, your provider may want to see you more often. They assess each expectant mom individually and advise you how often you need to visit the clinic.

There are specialized providers on hand at Southern Crescent Women’s HealthCare who can help with every aspect of your pregnancy and preparing for birth, including running breastfeeding workshops.

What other issues could affect my pregnancy?

Many factors could affect your pregnancy, but you can be confident that under the expert management of the team at Southern Crescent Women’s HealthCare, the best possible care is taken of both you and your baby.

Possible complications include:

  • Multiple pregnancies
  • Pre-existing medical conditions
  • Genetic abnormalities
  • Infections
  • Mood disorders
  • Severe morning sickness (hyperemesis gravidarum)

Many women have a successful vaginal birth after cesarean delivery (VBAC), and your provider works with you to achieve vaginal delivery if that’s what you’d like. You can plan for VBAC, and if there’s any reason that you can’t proceed during labor, revert to having another C-section.

For many women, giving birth vaginally is an experience they wouldn’t want to miss, but in some cases, it’s inadvisable due to the risk of the original incision rupturing.

The team at Sothern Crescent Women’s Healthcare is affiliated with the outstanding Piedmont Fayette hospital which is fully equipped to manage women who are aiming for this type of delivery.

If you have any concerns about your pregnancy, the staff at Southern Crescent Women’s HealthCare are a warm, compassionate group of medical experts who are happy to answer all your questions and allay any fears. Call the clinic today or book an appointment online.
