Endometrial Ablation
Southern Crescent Women’s HealthCare
An endometrial ablation is a procedure that destroys the thin inner lining of the uterus. This procedure is a treatment for heavy vaginal bleeding, especially when the bleeding cannot be controlled by medication. Because it does not affect your hormones, an endometrial ablation does not alter hormonal symptoms like mood swings, bloating, and breast tenderness. Moreover, an endometrial ablation does not provide contraception, and you should not get pregnant after an ablation. Women who have endometrial ablations should use a reliable form of birth control until after menopause or consider permanent sterilization. While an endometrial ablation can be done in the operating room of the hospital, we can also perform it in our office.
